Welcome to the second in my Stories I Met on the Internet series. To get into the spirit of Halloween, this week's picks feature the uncanny, surreal and/or darkly humorous. You can find my recommendations under the cut. Happy reading! “You Don’t Have A Place Here” by Anna Vangala Jones (2019) featured in Okay Donkey
This is an absolute gem of a story that turns a meeting with HR into something ghostly and beautiful that operates on multiple layers. This story managed to make me smile even as my heart ached. Brilliant. “Games At Twilight” by Evan James Sheldon (2019) featured in the October 2019 Issue of Ghost Parachute. This story amps up the tension so incredibly well, I raced through it as my sense of unease grew with the narrator's. A really fantastic read and such tight writing with not a word out of place. Terrific. “Househunting” by Emma Sloley (2018) featured in Ellipsis Zine. This is one of those pieces of flash fiction that builds up to that sucker-punch final line with such sharpness and dexterity it left me breathless. Such a fresh and clever take on the haunted house trope. Loved it
